Tasting Notes: Sugarfield Spirits Bourbon Batch HP3 – Local Spirit 27

Hokus Pokus’ latest Sugarfield Bourbon pick was selected between two barrel samples brought to the Prairieville store and 27 customers of the store helped pick this. This is a five year old MGP bourbon with a mashbill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley and bottled at cask strength at 113 proof.

Color is a very solid dark amber, with thin film and thin legs on the swirl. Nose is a lovely vanilla rich bourbon nose, with some light herbal notes. On the palate, the vanilla is accompanied by some caramel, followed by a ton of baking spice and some herbal rye spice mid palate. Incredibly rich and thick mouthfeel. On the finish the spice gives way to oak tannin, and finish decrescendos nicely before lingering.

This is a really smooth and delicious bourbon that is really spicy. A truly great barrel pick. This was released in October in Prairieville but has just recently made it to the Alexandria store.
