My lovely wife bought me the Heaven Hill Heritage Collection 2022 Release, which is a 17 year old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, bottled at barrel proof of 118.2 The mashbill is distinctively low rye – 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% barley malt. The age statement reflects the youngest whiskey in the mashbill. Only 27% of the whiskey is 17 years old; the remainder is 44% 19 year old whiskey, and 28% twenty year old.
And of course it has a really cool box, so I had to create a dramatic video with apropos music:
This is a truly great high aged bourbon from barrels that didn’t lose so much water that the bourbon became super high proof, allowing it to be very drinkable at cask strength with amazing flavors. It’s not cheap, but my wife got it at retail for $275. It is definitely worth that, especially given what people are paying for what was previously cheap whiskey. I had my wife try it and she didn’t want to give me back the copita and told me I need to save that rather than drink it. High marks indeed from Catherine. The main difference between the Heaven Hill and Parker’s Heritage Collections is that the Parker’s tends to be more experimental as far as cask finishes, while the HH Heritage is going to be just really great straight bourbons. This 17 year old definitely hits the marks you want from a high aged straight bourbon. This bottling is definitely on the level with Buffalo Trace’s George T. Stagg and William LaRue Weller. I will definitely be looking forward to future releases of the Heaven Hill Heritage Collection.
