Tasting Notes: Hokus Pokus Ghost V Maker’s Mark Private Selection

I picked up two bottles of the Ghost V Hokus Pokus Maker’s Mark Private Selection at Hokus Pokus Wednesday after trying that night during Whiskey Wednesday. As you can tell, from one of the below pictures, I have really been enjoying this bottle. This bottle costs $73. The particular pick weighs in at 109.2 proof, and has a unique stave profile with the newest staves Maker’s is using, Roasted French Mendiant. This has replaced the French Mocha stave.

Color is a nice amber; nice oily legs and film on the swirl. Nose is a delightful wheated bourbon nose; lovely bread notes and baking spice. On the palate, the first thing you notice is how great the mouthfeel is on this. The flavors of baked confections with caramelized sugar, baking spice, a hint of clove, a hint of bitter dark chocolate are a wonderful combination on this whiskey. On the finish the baking spice and clove dominate along with some lovely oak.

If you are looking for a last minute gift for a bourbon lover, particularly folks that like wheated bourbon, this is a must get.
