It has literally been two years since I have been able to get my hands on a bottle of Booker’s, the uncut, unfiltered small batch bourbon from Jim Beam. Booker’s batches are often different from one another as far as flavor and proof, but the age is fairly consistent between six and eight years old, how Booker Noe liked it. Charlie’s Batch is seven years, one month, and eight days old, and is 126.6 proof.
The color is a nice very solid amber. On the swirl is a really nice thick film and legs. On the nose is lovely vanilla and oak, very old school bourbon. On the palate, is vanilla, oak, some dark fruit, hints of caramel and herbal rye. Dangerously quaffable at this proof; nice medium to full bodied mouthfeel. Really nice Kentucky hug going down. On the finish, the herbal rye becomes candied with candied cherries and oak. The finish is really amazing.
I also had my wife Catherine try it, and she agreed that this one is really good. Definitely one of the better Booker’s that is really complex with no funky yeast notes.
