Tasting Notes: Smooth Ambler Old Scout “Lil Prairie Ghost” Barrel Pick from Hokus Pokus

I miss Smooth Ambler Old Scout Single Barrel, which was a wonderful cask strength MGP Bourbon. Lucky for me. Hokus Pokus got a barrel of the new release of Old Scout at cask strength, at a healthy 115.2 proof. Six year old age statement. The mashbill is high rye: 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley.

Color is a nice dark honey colored amber. On the swirl is a thin film but big thick legs. Nose has some caramel, light vanilla, herbal rye. On the palate, light vanilla, light caramel, candy corn, and lovely candied herbal rye, along with rye spiciness and hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Finish hones in on the candied rye and some light oak that lingers. Really lovely high rye cask strength bourbon.

Definitely pick one up before this great bottle is gone.
